    • Releasing the DVD Generator version 1.13.
    • Bug resolution: the bundled cabextract.exe, which was used to apply the Service Pack 2, needed Cygwin to work. So, MS SP2 was not streamlined to provided Windows sources (which was OK in all versions previous to 1.12). We now use 7-zip to extract MS's cab files.

    • Releasing the DVD Generator version 1.12 !!
    • Small bug resolution: when the user wanted to customize the future ISO by adding files to the output directory, they would not be taken into account by the Generator (wrongly considering them as superfluous files.)
    • A file called repository.txt can now be added to the output directory, and will be added to the ISO too. The soon-to-be-released WINNER Project will explain the purpose of this new file.

    • Improvement in the Linux image (initrd.gz)
    • Even when the user chooses to install Windows from scratch (reformating all the first drive's partitions), the Linux script now gives the user the possibility to keep the existing boot sector. As most drives already boot a NT/2000/XP system, this should lessen the need for a boot sector rewriting. (As a matter of fact, it seems that our rewriting of a NTFS boot sector has failed on some specific configurations, so why not avoid it when possible ?)

    • Improvements in the $OEM$ distrib (drivers)
    • There were a little too many drivers in the oem.7z file, and in some configurations, the unattended installation of Windows quickly led to a BSOD (blue screen of death), with a message about "portcli.sys" not being found or something similar. The BSOD would occur before the Windows 39-minute graphical installation step. Sorry for the inconvenience.
    • Concerned users can safely relaunch the DVD Generator, and generate a new ISO image.

    • Releasing the DVD Generator version 1.11 !!
    • No more Cygwin-based executables. The software can now run without conflicting with another application using a different version of Cygwin.
    • When choosing applications to be downloaded, the DVD Generator now displays the total size of needed downloads (when checking the checkbox "Advanced users: I want to customize more and download less").
    • Bug solving: people who had checked the checkbox "Advanced users..." and only downloaded a part of oem.7z needed to delete the corrupt oem.7z archive, because the Generator would not overwrite it (so to keep customizations). New version checks for archive integrity, and resumes the downloading of oem.7z if it's corrupted.
    • Default install directory is no more C:\DVD_Generator, but C:\Program files\DVD_Generator. Oops. Those downloading the zipped install file can now modify the install location safely.
    • A more beautiful GUI.

    • Improvements in the Linux image (initrd.gz)
    • The new version can now write a NTFS bootsector directly from Linux. Previously, it could only write a FAT32 bootsector, and Gilles Volant's bootpart.exe utility was used in DOS to convert the bootsector from FAT32 to NTFS. This was working in most cases, but not always: in some modern configurations, the BIOS had to be set so to be compatible with "old" DOS applications (int13-related). This should be solved.
    • Parameters sent to the kernel have been modified so to remove ACPI. This was preventing some laptops from booting the kernel.

    • Thanks to all those who have pointed these bugs or feature requests, on the forum of this site, but as well on MSFN.

    • Releasing the DVD Generator version 1.10 !!
    • Complete customization of the unattended installation of Windows is now possible. You can add/remove drivers and software to be downloaded and installed before generating any ISO image. All key files (aka winnt.sif) can be edited easily.
    • Much better graphical user interface.
    • You can bypass the initial checking of available free space (was irrelevant in the case the Generator had already downloaded all sources in a previous session, and would not have to do it again; even less relevant now you can reduce the size of what has to be downloaded and written into the ISO).
    • You can now burn a CD rather than a DVD, should the generated ISO image be small enough.

  • 2006-01-29
    • The DVD Generator is now nLite-friendly. This means you can ask the Generator to work with a nLited i386 directory, and get the best of the two worlds. (nLite can be obtained on the author's website: www.nliteos.com.)

  • 2006-01-25
