Hi Zian,

yep. That's wisdom. There will be a ping-latest symlink, as everywhere else :D

Hi people !

No update these days, though some fixes are needed, but I'm glad to announce that we've moved to a brand new powerful server, with a dual core proc. I had not noticed at first that the forum was impacted (a very small problem with the SMTP setting), so sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi there;
I'm glad to announce the release of PING 2.01.01 (2007/10/03)

What's new ?

- Bug fix: in some cases, we would not record the boot sector of the right device (thanks Crulie)
- Upgraded from kernel 2.6.22.6 to 2.6.22.9
- Upgraded the partimage binary from 0.6.4 to 0.6.6
- Windows RAID 0-1 handling: we don't expect any more to see what is in such partitions for backing them up (since it appears we can't mount them).

Always use the main download page here as it should always be up to date. And yes, that other link will work for now (until a new version is released anyway ;))

Right... I've been fed up with modifying every link everywhere, and... kept the same 2.01 global version :D I'll try to do it a better way next time.

The server has crashed this week-end RIGHT during the Jewish festivals. Sorry for the inconvenience... I'll find a solution for next festivals !

Hi there;
I'm glad to announce the release of PING 2.01.02 (2007/10/09)

What's new ?

- Bug fix: when an image was stored in a 2nd hdd and it had to be used to restore the 1st hdd, the menu would loop forever (thanks Crulie)
- Only displays shell help if asked (h to get it).
- Stop getting the /var/log/partimage-debug.log file. Useless crap.

If you are burning a CD you will only need the updated ISO file. If you use PXE you will need the initrd.gz (unless the kernel is updated then you need kernel as well)

Hi people,

I'm glad to announce the release of PING 2.01.04 (2007-11-06). As always, it can be downloaded from here:
http://ping.windowsdream.com/ping/download.html

Changes :
- Upgraded linux kernel from 2.6.22.9 to 2.6.23 (some more SATA drivers.)
- Upgraded e2fsprogs from 1.39 to 1.40.2.
- Upgraded ntfs-3g from 1.516 to 1.1030.
- Upgraded fuse from 2.7.0 to 2.7.1.
- Upgraded ntfsprogs from 1.13.1 to 2.0.0.
- Upgraded dhcpcd from 3.1.5 to 3.1.7.
- Upgraded cmospwd from 4.8 to 5.0.
- Upgraded chntpw from 070409 to 070923.
- Upgraded parted from 1.8.7 to 1.8.8.
- Upgraded samba from 3.0.25a to 3.0.26a.
- Re-downgraded partimage from 0.6.6 to 0.6.4 (missed it last time; apologizes to all concerned users for probable troubles).

Please note that the PING script itself has not been modified... there were already many changes to the linux image itself, and I felt safer not to add confusion.

The downgrad of the partimage binary is very important. If you've experienced problems with it (restorations failing before the end, etc.) you should really get this new PING release. In fact, everyone should.

Oops

Proudly announcing the release of PING 2.01.05, available in the usual download page.

Changes :
- Get first 64 sectors of every device instead of 1 -- which might help us restore Grub sectors correctly (thanks Marijin & tkt).
- Upgraded linux kernel from 2.6.23 to 2.6.23.1.
- Compiled intel e1000 drivers as a module from Intel's e1000-7.6.9 latest release, and removed kernel's version, which was compiled within the kernel binary. Now, 82566DM-2 NIC chipsets work fine.

Thank you Natan! :D

May I suggest to add a small txt file in the ISO with the version? (Or in the CD label)
Also a short list of history changes in the How to would be very useful...

Thanks again!
