Install Sources not found ?

Postby Shug Ninx » Fri Apr 11, 2008 10:38 pm

Hello all !

First of all, thanks for your amazing work !
Thanks *a lot* !

I've managed to fix a lot of (my) mistakes so far, but here I'm stuck :
http://ping.windowsdream.com/winner/doc/using2.html
on step #12, it keeps asking me for my SMB share.
I filled in everything correctly several times, remotely accessed successfully to my OUTPUT share from another XP laptop. It just goes through steps #12 to 17 on and on...

Thanks in advance :-)

On what OS is your share hosted on?

uh... indeed !

my server is WinXP Pro + tftp as described here :
http://ping.windowsdream.com/winner/doc/pxe.html

The client is a laptop with no other option than PXE for windows install.

Thanks again.

The best I can suggest for now then is to boot the PING project and then get a shell to try the SAMBA mount manually. It could shed some light on this issue. If you can get WINNER to goto a command prompt that would be better, but I do not remember if you can. There are steps in the PING How-To as to getting the prompt and to mount a share. Let me know how it goes.

"Can I use winner's terminal to do it ?"
-> "If you can get WINNER to goto a command prompt that would be better"
"What commands should I try ? "

I must be dumb but I cannot find any command-line commands to manually connect to the network share in the PING howto...

Well, starting with ifconfig, it only lists l0...
ifconfig /dev/eth0 up returns "no such devices".

it seems I'll need to add my network card driver (Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E)...
can anyone help with this issue ?

Try the PING kernel file with the intird.gz from WINNER... That may work and PING is much more up to date.

For this particular issue, WINNER saved my life, as the target computer is a hardened laptop (Panasonic ToughBook) without CDROM drive.

But hopefully (or shamefully), I don't need PXE install every day. I wish I knew how to use PXE to boot any of my bootable-CD based test utils though, such as Ultimate Boot CD, but I guess WINNER isn't intended for that purpose.

Thanks again !
