WINNER Failure on Section VII - Windows Install in VMWare

Postby solozone » Wed Dec 02, 2009 3:34 am

First off, I am doing the Install of WinXP within a VMWare. The VM I am building from the PXE is doing its job, connects to PXE and installs all.

I have everything configured and running in a separate VM as the Host tftd32 app and its delivering the package to the VM i'm creating. All sections have completed. A couple of bumps along the way, but the forums bailed me out.

In section VII, I got until the very end, and delivery to the HD on to the PC(VM) is done, when it reboots I get the windows setup. I have to use F6 to use the Floppy SCSI drivers, I get past that then I get to selection of examining the drive. I am then prompted that it cannot find vmscsi.sys,vmscsi.inf,vmscsi.cat (this is the floppy drivers that i was OK with before) from the CD. I have tried to skip the files, but I am stuck in an infinite setup loop now.

What are my choices?
Do I, some how get these files into the WINXP CD iso I created with DVD Generator?
Create the VM without SCSI drive... hmm.

Looking for some help. I need to do this in VM as I'm consistently creating VMs and testing applications on fresh installs of XP. So do not send me the proverbial input to try this on an individual PC.

Can you install WinXP to the VMWare Machine any other way? If so, then you may find PING of more use. That project is better maintained. You could make an image of a the fresh install and then put it back every time you want to test something new. Would be faster than a fresh install every time and updates would never have to be re-applied every time. I never had this issue with WINNER but if you must use PXE to install the WinXP then maybe Unattended is more for you. Better maintained, but a bit of a pain to setup. Once setup you should be fine, then use PING to make your image :)
