Downloading necessary sources using the DVD Generator (and optionally, Burning a WINNER ISO)
Directory names are given here as samples. Adapt the following according to your specific needs and configuration.
- Launch the SysAngel DVD Generator.
- In the "1. Select your output folder" textbox, enter C:\OUTPUT.
- In the "2. Indicate your Windows XP source", browse to the i386
directory of the Windows XP you want to deploy. (Do so even if you want the
users to provide their own copy of Windows XP.)
- In the "4. Enter Windows Serial number" textbox, you may
provide a serial that will be used for all your users, or no serial at all,
forcing users to use their own one.
- Check the "Advanced users: I want to customize a lot more, and download
a lot less" checkbox.
- You should get something like this :
- Now, click the "5. Generate the SYSANGEL DVD ISO" button. Of course, we don't really need the ISO image that will be generated, but we do need the soft to download or update files used to generate the ISO. We also need the DVD Generator to prepare the Windows release, if you plan to deploy the same Windows version to all your users (and in most cases, I guess you will).
- In case of trouble, please refer to the 1-Using_the_DVD_Generator.pdf document, also available from the Help button of the DVD Generator, to read more about the application features and FAQ.
- You should get to the following screen :
- Many drivers are proposed by default. Use the "Add/Remove Drivers" button to modify the default choice according to the specific needs of your computer park.
- Use the "Select Apps to Download" button to choose what software you want to get from our Software Repository.
- To add your own software, click the "Edit Apps" button, and complete the self-explained text file according to your needs. You'll have to add needed files and folders directly into the C:\OUTPUT directory.
- When everything is done, click the "Finished the custom. Generate the ISO!" button and wait... until you get to the final screen :
- The C:\OUTPUT folder should be all right. If you need to be able to install Windows with a bootable DVD, burn the ISO (C:\OUTPUT\DVD.iso). Else, you might simply delete this file. If you want users to provide their own Windows CD, delete the C:\OUTPUT\c.7z file. You can close the DVD Generator.
Note that the DVD Generator may fail in burning the C:\OUTPUT\DVD.iso file, in some specific hardware configurations. In such a case, use your favourite burning software (you might consult this page to have a small tutorial explaining how an ISO can be burnt.)
